Marine
O’Mahony has a longtime interest in matters relating to the sea and to boating in general.
He is a keen yacht sailor and a member of the Sailing in Dublin Club.
He is qualified to Yachtmaster Coastal Skipper level and has sailed extensively in the waters around Ireland, England, Scotland and France. He has also cruised further afield in the waters of the Mediterranean around Turkey, Croatia, Greece and Italy.
Additionally, he is interested in inland-waterways and has owned two crusing boats based on the river shannon He is a member of the Irish Waterways Association of Ireland.
Irish Lights
From 2013-2023, O’Mahony served as a Commissioner of Irish Lights. This is a board level position on the body that is responsible for the operation of Lighthouses and Aids-to-Navigation around the coast of the island of Ireland. In addition to his normal board membership, he also served as a member of the Audit & Risk Committee and chaired the Corporate Planning Committee.
